There is no IPTV app to install on a Tesla: the built-in browser is the only way in. Roadly is a web player that opens on that screen and plays the stream from your own IPTV subscription — the one you already pay for, connected with your Xtream Codes credentials or your M3U URL. Roadly does not sell, resell, supply or recommend subscriptions, playlists or channels: it only puts the picture on the screen.
1You need a subscription that is already yours
Roadly is a player, and nothing else. It does not sell IPTV subscriptions, does not resell them, does not bundle them into a pass, does not hand out credentials, does not publish channel lists and does not point you anywhere to find one. Not a single channel lives on our servers — only the code that draws whatever your service sends onto the car screen.
To put it even more bluntly: if you do not already have a working IPTV subscription, this page has nothing for you. There is no list further down, no link to ask for in chat, no shortcut. A 7, 14 or 30-day pass pays for the player — the TV-style interface on the car screen, the video engine, and someone to answer when a channel will not start. The content is between you and the service you chose.
2Why IPTV is hard inside a car browser
Because everything an app does on a television has to be done by a web page in a car — and the in-car browser is not a television. There are four obstacles, ordered by how much damage they do.
- No store. Nothing gets installed on a Tesla: whatever you run has to run inside the browser that is already there. A native app could open any connection it liked, with nobody to answer to; a web page has rules to follow.
- CORS. Your provider's server was never built to talk to a web page: it replies without the headers a browser insists on, and the browser throws the reply away. Roadly routes streams through its own proxy, which adds those headers and forces the traffic onto IPv4: over IPv6, connections to a lot of IPTV servers simply hang and never answer.
- Audio. Most television channels are carried in AC-3 or E-AC-3, and the car's browser decodes neither: the picture starts and the sound does not. It is by far the most common complaint, and there is a section on it below.
- Provider CDNs. This is the weakest link in the chain and the one furthest outside our control: addresses move, servers saturate at prime time, formats change with no warning. No player can invent a stream that never arrives.
Then there is the part about a car in motion. Once a Tesla is moving, the standard video element of a web page goes dark — that applies to every site, not just ours. Roadly does not use that element: it decodes the stream and draws the frames, one at a time, onto a canvas. That is a rendering choice, and it is why the picture stays visible on the road. It is there for passengers: whoever is at the wheel has to keep their eyes on the road.
3Connecting your own subscription
You connect it once, and it is worth doing while parked: typing long addresses on a car keyboard is the tedious part of the whole business. After that it stays connected.
- 1. Open the Tesla browser, go to roadly.it and sign in to your account.
- 2. Open the IPTV section and pick how you want to connect: Xtream Codes credentials, or an M3U URL.
- 3. For Xtream Codes you need three things: the server address including its port (in the form http://host:port), your username and your password. Roadly queries the server and rebuilds categories, channels and — if the service exposes one — the programme guide.
- 4. For M3U, paste the full playlist address, including everything after the question mark. It has to be an address the car itself can reach: a file saved on your phone is no use.
- 5. Save it and let the first load finish. A list with thousands of entries takes a few seconds; that happens once, then it is cached.
- 6. Open a channel you know is reliable, not the most obscure one on the list. If that one plays, the connection is fine and anything after this is a per-channel problem.
Your service credentials are stored encrypted on the server and are never shown in the clear on the car screen. You can delete them whenever you want, and the playlist goes with them.
4The channel plays but there is no sound
Nine times out of ten the culprit is AC-3 audio, or its bigger sibling E-AC-3: it is the broadcast standard, and the car's browser does not decode it on its own. The video arrives and plays, the audio track stays silent.
Roadly deals with it in two ways. On the device, an audio decoder compiled to WebAssembly opens AC-3, E-AC-3, MP2 and MP3 and hands them back to the car speakers. When that route is not enough, the stream goes through a server-side rewrite that converts only the audio track to AAC and leaves the video untouched: it costs a few extra seconds at startup, but the channel talks.
It does not always work, and that is worth saying out loud. A channel with an unusual audio track, or with several languages badly declared by the provider, can stay silent. When that happens, open the track selector in the player: often the right language is there, just not first in the list.
5Channels that freeze: the provider or the player?
In the large majority of cases it is the provider, and two tests will tell you. First: open the same channel on another device on the same network. Second: open a different channel in Roadly.
- It freezes everywhere, car or not: it is the provider's stream. There is nothing a player can do about that.
- It freezes only in Roadly while other channels are fine: this is the interesting case, usually an unusual format or codec. Send us the channel name.
- Everything freezes in Roadly but the network is healthy: almost always the car's connection rather than the playlist. A live stream has nothing buffered ahead of it, so it suffers dropouts far more than a film does.
- Fine for twenty minutes, then it stops at the same time every evening: that is prime-time load on the provider's server.
This is the least satisfying part of the whole story, and nobody enjoys writing it. How stable an IPTV channel is depends on infrastructure we don't control and can't make promises about. Roadly can reconnect by itself, restart from a valid point in the stream, and tell you plainly that the server is not answering. It cannot manufacture data the server never sent.
6How much data it uses
Roughly 1–2 GB per hour of viewing. That is the honest figure for a 720p channel: a news bulletin sits at the bottom of that range, a football match with a constantly moving camera sits at the top.
Roadly caps video at 720p on purpose, not because it has to. On a car screen at arm's length the difference against 1080p is nearly invisible, while the connection notices every bit of it: less bandwidth means fewer interruptions, and after a gap in coverage — a tunnel, a dead stretch of motorway — the stream comes back faster. It works over Tesla Premium Connectivity or over your phone's hotspot, and the data bill is the same as any other streaming.
7What Roadly does not do
Roadly is only a player, and this is the list of everything it does not do. It matters as much as the rest of the page, because it is the part competitors leave out.
- It does not sell, resell, supply or recommend subscriptions, playlists or channels. No exceptions, not even privately.
- It does not record, download or retain the streams it plays.
- It does not promise that any particular channel, film or service will work: providers change formats and infrastructure whenever they like.
- It does not go above 720p, by design.
- It does not work offline: a live stream cannot be carried with you.
- It is not an app and it changes nothing about the car. It is an address you open in the built-in browser.
- It does not show a programme guide if your service does not expose one: that data comes from the provider, not from us.

8The law, and who answers for what

It does not sell, resell, supply, bundle or recommend any subscription, playlist or channel: the stream you watch comes from the service you chose, using credentials that are yours. Responsibility for what you watch, and for whether the service you got it from is above board, stays with the person who signed up for it.
One last thing, repeated on every page: Roadly is made for passengers, or for a car that is stopped, parked or charging. Whoever is at the wheel has to keep their eyes on the road.

Does Roadly sell IPTV subscriptions?
No. It does not sell them, resell them, bundle them into a pass, or tell you where to find one. Roadly is only the player: the subscription is yours, signed up by you, and stays yours.
Can I use an M3U file saved on my phone?
No — it has to be an address the car can reach on its own, because Roadly reads the playlist from a URL rather than an uploaded file. If your service hands you a file, that file was normally generated from an address the service itself gave you.
Xtream Codes or M3U — which is better?
Xtream Codes, whenever your service offers it: it exposes a structured list, so categories, films and the programme guide come through far better. M3U is a flat list; it works, but with none of the trimmings.
Why does a channel play with no sound?
Almost always because the audio track is AC-3 or E-AC-3, which the car's browser does not decode by itself. Roadly decodes it in software and, when needed, rewrites it to AAC on the server. If it stays silent, try switching tracks in the language selector.
Do I need a dedicated SIM, or is my phone enough?
Your phone's hotspot is fine, and so is Tesla Premium Connectivity. The only thing that matters is stability: a live stream has nothing buffered ahead, so it feels dropouts more than a film does.
Are my credentials safe?
They are stored encrypted on the server and are never displayed in the clear on the car screen. You can remove them at any time, and the playlist disappears with them.
